Hilarious Photo of Stuck Squirrel Wins Comedy Wildlife Awards

If you’re looking for a good laugh – and who isn’t, these days? – the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards always delivers. And in case you missed the overall winner in last year’s competition, a hilarious image of a stuck squirrel, we’ve included it above for your enjoyment.

Titled, appropriately, “Stuck Squirrel,” the winning image was captured by Italian photographer Milko Marchetti in a park in Ravena, Italy.

“I have taken several photos of squirrels in many situations, but the shot I choose to participate in the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards immediately struck me for the strange position assumed by the squirrel that seems to be stuck halfway in the hole in the tree, but in reality, it is the moment in which it is detaching the support on its hind legs and enters the hole,” Marchetti explained.

“This photo had an effect on me and made me smile a lot in that moment that I clicked the button, and during my evenings of slideshows and nature videos that I often hold at photography clubs and theaters, the audience always explodes in energetic laughter when I show this photo. I knew I had to enter it into the competition.”

Marchetti’s winning shot of the red squirrel faced some stiff competition in the 2024 Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards with over 9000 photo entries, which is a new record for the competition.
