NYnLON restaurant review, Blackfriars, London

Although NYnLON, pronounced nylon, is located in the Hyatt Hotel in London’s Blackfriars, this restaurant London is open to everyone.

The Grade II-listed building has an interesting provenance. It was once the grounds of King Henry VIII’s Bridewell Palace famously where he divorced Katherine of Aragon. Edward VI gave the palace to the City of London and by the 18th Century, it became a famous women’s prison.  In June 2023, the venue became the contemporary Hyatt Hotel with Nynlon restaurant on the ground floor.

The menu offers a fusion of comfort food from London and New York within a bistro-style environment. It’s an easy vibe, and pleasant decor of wood floors, plenty of space around tables, dimmish lighting, attractive brass fittings, and vintage illustration artwork decorating the walls.

The Food

The grills and large plates are the stars of the show with a choice of Salmon Chop, Sugar Pit Pork Chop, 35 day dry aged Rib-Eye, marinated Grilled Lamb Chops, Fish & Chips and NY Strip Steak. Several bowls and salad options feature as well as new classics such as Buttermilk Chicken Buffalo, Lobster & Crayfish Roll and Black Angus Beef Burger.

We started with marinated courgettes served on cannellini beans, hummus drizzled with smoked almonds, a gorgeous mouthful of flavours. The vegan Burrella, turned up as a ball of vegan cheese served on slightly spicy chilled tomato sauce, surrounded with Kalamata olives and fresh black mission figs.

For the main courses, we chose the well-executed backyard BBQ baby chicken with corn salad and the salmon chop, a beautifully seasoned, juicy chop served with fennel and mojo marinade – a delicious sauce with a base of garlic, olive oil, and sour orange juice. For comfort food this was outstanding.

We added a side of chips, sprouting broccoli seasoned with a chilli dressing and polenta chips doused in 24-month-aged parmesan cheese served with truffle mayonnaise

The long bar is a lovely focal point where you can perch on a stool for a drink or a tipple. They have a great range of American wines, premium champagnes, craft beers and American-influenced bourbon mixology so you may want to give that a shot.

VERDICT:NYnLON restaurant is conveniently located opposite Blackfriars Station and makes an easy, convivial meet-up point in London. It’s the type of place you can pop in at any time of the day or night and enjoy wholesome food, the type you would find in a high-end gastropub. Or perch by the long bar on a high stool for a natter over a tipple or with one of their signature American-style wines or cocktails. Eating here is a great experience.

NYnLON is just inside the Hyatt Regency Blackfriars Hotel, 19 New Bridge St, London EC4V 6DB
