Tamron Reveals 28-75mm f/2.8 G2 Zoom for Nikon Z

Tamron just announced that their 28-75mm f/2.8 G2 fast-aperture standard zoom lens that earned widespread popularity in the Sony E mount will be available soon for Nikon Z mount full-frame mirrorless cameras. The new 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 (Model A063) for Nikon Z mount is expected to be available on April 18, 2024. Featuring Tamron’s VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism, the new 28-75mm zoom focuses as close at 7.1 inches (0.18m) at the 28mm position, producing a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.7.

The optical construction of the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 G2 zoom employs 17 elements in 15 groups, including two LD (Low Dispersion) and GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lenses. Lightweight and compact, the zoom weights but 19.4 ounces (550g) and measures just 4.7 inches (119.8mm) long. Like most of Tamron’s mirrorless lenses, the filter size is 67mm. In its Sony E mount iteration, this zoom won the prestigious EISA Award for 2018-19.

Tamron’s 28-75mm f/2.8 G2 zoom is compatible with the proprietary Tamron Lens Utility software (developed in-house by Tamron) that empowers users to easily update the lens to the latest firmware without going through the camera and includes functions to customize focusing operations and other actions when shooting still images or video.

It also features moisture-resistant construction and a protective coating of oleophobic fluorine on the front element to help protect against dust and fingerprints.
