Luminar on Web Brings Advanced Photo Editing to the Browser
Skylum is expanding its photo-editing ecosystem with the launch of Luminar on Web, a browser-based editing platform designed to bring advanced creative tools to photographers without requiring powerful computer hardware or a lengthy software installation.
Luminar on Web extends the company’s editing technology beyond desktop and mobile, giving photographers a way to work with images directly in a browser. The platform combines RAW editing, AI-powered enhancements, and Light Depth technology with cross-device synchronization and access to a shared Prime asset library.
The launch represents a broader shift for Luminar, positioning the software as a multiplatform editing solution while challenging the limitations of conventional online photo editors, which often focus on basic adjustments, templates, or subscription-based access.
Advanced Editing Without the Desktop
One of Luminar on Web’s defining features is its integration of Light Depth technology, which Skylum describes as the first implementation of its kind in a browser-based photo editor. The tool allows users to shape lighting and add depth and dimension to images, opening up creative possibilities beyond conventional online editing controls.
The platform also supports RAW editing directly in the browser, a capability that remains relatively uncommon among web-based photo editors. For photographers who want to work with high-resolution images without relying on a dedicated desktop application, this could offer greater flexibility across devices and locations.
Because the editing experience runs in a browser, Luminar on Web is designed to reduce the demands on local hardware and storage. Users can access the platform on devices with a compatible browser without needing to install a full desktop application.
AI Tools and Creative Controls
Luminar on Web brings several of Skylum’s established editing technologies into the browser, combining practical image adjustments with AI-assisted creative tools.
Key features include:
- GenErase: Removes unwanted objects from photographs.
- Photo Restoration: Restores and enhances older or damaged images.
- Light Depth: Adjusts lighting to create a greater sense of depth and dimension.
- AI Sky: Provides tools for changing or enhancing skies.
- AI Structure: Enhances image detail and structure.
- AI Body: Offers body-shaping adjustments for portrait photography.
- AI Bokeh: Creates or enhances background blur for a more pronounced subject separation.
- RAW editing: Enables photographers to work with RAW files directly in the browser.
The platform also brings together Presets and LUTs, giving users access to complementary approaches to styling images and establishing a consistent visual look. Skylum says Luminar on Web includes a broader toolkit for landscape, portrait, and everyday photography than is typically found in browser-based editors.
Designed for Beginners and Experienced Photographers
Skylum is positioning Luminar on Web for photographers across experience levels. Beginners can access advanced editing tools through a browser-based interface, while more experienced users gain another way to work on images when their usual desktop setup is unavailable.
Cross-device synchronization and a shared Prime asset library are intended to help connect the editing experience across platforms. The broader goal is to make it easier for photographers to move between devices while maintaining access to their creative resources.
The browser-based approach also lowers some of the traditional barriers to entry for image editing. Users do not need to invest in a high-powered computer simply to access the platform, and the reduced reliance on local storage may appeal to photographers working on devices with limited capacity.
A Different Approach to Photo-Editing Software
Luminar on Web also introduces a licensing proposition that distinguishes it from many online editing services. According to Skylum, it is the first and only photo editor to offer a Lifetime license spanning desktop, mobile, and web.
That model gives photographers an alternative to subscription-only editing products, although the available functionality depends on the selected access level.
“As a company building photo-editing products for hobbyist photographers, our mission is to amplify the joy of editing,” said Ivan Kutanin, CEO of Skylum. He described the web launch as another step toward making high-quality photo editing more accessible and turning Luminar into a multiplatform product.
Availability and Pricing
Luminar on Web became available through Skylum’s website on October 15, 2026. The basic version is available for free, with full access priced at $69.
With RAW processing, AI-powered adjustments, Light Depth technology, and cross-device workflows, Luminar on Web brings a more ambitious set of creative tools to browser-based editing. For photographers looking for flexibility beyond a traditional desktop workflow, the new platform offers another way to access Luminar’s editing capabilities.
