What is twilight photography?
As the name implies, twilight photography is when the photographers take pictures of the property’s exterior at twilight. Twilight time is defined as 10 minutes past sunset, which leaves 10 minutes for photographers to capture the photos. A session will typically produce between 4-5 pictures, and while the yield may not be high, the effect of golden-hour will get the buyer’s attention.
Twilight photography typically refers to the exterior of the property. The property’s interior and exterior lights should be on during the shoot. The interior lighting illuminates the photos since the background has beautiful pink, orange, and purple hues in a gentle glow.
Pros of twilight photography:
Twilight photography is excellent for showcasing your property in the best possible lighting. Since potential buyers will often be viewing the property in-person or online, potential buyers will be able to see the property in a way they would not be able to in the daytime.
One of the significant benefits of twilight photography is that there are no shadows, which is ideal for North facing properties. The natural light in the background is soft, and the sky has warm tone colors that give off a friendly and inviting atmosphere. While the natural light is dim, the primary light source of the photo would come from the interior lights of the house, creating the image of a “glowing” property. The combined will naturally direct the viewer’s gaze to the property and highlight the external features of the building.
Cons of twilight photography:
The main disadvantage of twilight photography is time. Since twilight happens at a specific time, our photographers have to be at location during specific hours and have only a brief time to shoot the photographs. Thankfully, due to rapidly advancing technology, we can now move around this through virtual twilight photography.
Virtual twilight photography:
Virtual twilight photography is a digitally edited image made to look like the photo was taken during twilight. Modern technology has allowed these edited images to look reasonably similar to those taken during actual twilight.
Since there is no longer a time constraint, virtual twilight photography allows for more flexibility in schedule and pricing. A significant benefit of a virtual twilight is that it is significantly cheaper than actual twilight photography. The reason is that the images used for virtual twilight photography are taken during a regular daytime photoshoot. So, it avoids scheduling a separate photoshoot outside of regular work hours. At Sharp Frame Media, we price a set of 4-5 twilight photos at $99, while virtual twilight photos are priced at $25 per photo. You save a considerable amount if you end up only needing 1-2 shots rather than the whole package.
However, there are some key aspects to keep in mind. Since the photos are taken during the daytime, the shadows are likely to be an issue if it is sunny. The shadows are edited out, making it more challenging to create a realistic effect. Typically, a virtual twilight or dusk will yield better results during cloudy days because of the lack of shadows.
Who should look into twilight photography?
Properties that will benefit the most from twilight photography have beautiful exteriors and lovely landscaping. It is also essential to ensure that the interior and exterior lights are working to have a twilight photoshoot properly.
Based on your needs, schedule, and budget, Sharp Frame Media has the options to find what would best suit you. Whether it is actual twilight photography or virtual twilight photos, Sharp Frame Media will deliver only the best quality of photos we can offer.
